GM/CA's Mission

The GM/CA @ APS project has been established by the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) and National Cancer Institute (NCI) to build and operate a national user facility for crystallographic structure determination of biological macromolecules by X-ray diffraction.

Beam time is provided, on a peer review basis, to the structural biology user community for investigations requiring the specific capabilities of the APS. Crystallographic data is collected for structure determinations of proteins and other macromolecules at the forefront of biological research, with an emphasis on problems in structural genomics and structure based drug design. The scientific and technical goals of the GM/CA @ APS emphasize streamlined, efficient throughput for a variety of sample types, sizes and qualities, representing the cutting edge of structural biology research.

GM/CA @ APS is an Office of Science User Facility operated for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science by Argonne National Laboratory
