Florida NRCS to Attend University of Florida CALS Career Expo

NRCS Florida will be attending University of Florida's annual College of Agricultural and Life Sciences' (CALS) Career Expo.  It is being held  February 13, 2013, in the J. Financial Assistance Available to Improve Health of Watersheds Draining into Gulf

Agricultural producers living in the Escambia River or Middle Suwannee River Area watersheds, should contact your local NRCS office before March 15, 2013. Florida farmers and ranchers in these watersheds may be eligible for the Gulf of Mexico Initiative (GoMI). The initiative is designed to help improve water quality and ensure sustainable production of food and fiber.

Additional Opportunity Announced for Agricultural Assistance in Florida

Applications due by March 15, 2013 to be eligible for this year’s funding.

NRCS in Florida has announced an additional chance for producers to sign up for the Organic initiative, Seasonal high tunnel initiative, On-farm energy initiative, and the Longleaf pine initiative. Interested producers should visit their local NRCS service center now to receive more information.

NRCS Youth Academy kick off event group picture

NRCS Launches Youth Conservation Academy

The USDA NRCS announces a new program designed to attract outstanding young people to careers in conservation. The announcement was made at a kick-off event at the TERRA Environmental Research Institute in Miami; attended by NRCS officials, school administrators, Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden staff and students.

Claims Filing Period Open for Hispanic and Women Farmers and Ranchers Who Claim Past Discrimination

WASHINGTON, Sept. 24, 2012- Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced that Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers who allege discrimination by the USDA in past decades can file claims between September 24, 2012 and March 25, 2013.
