PEACHTREE CITY, GA — January 10, 2013 — Dr. Aldridge Argus Boone has been selected as Superintendent for the Camp Lejeune North Carolina School District of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS)-Cuba,  according to Dr. Beth Middlemiss, Interim Director.

Dr. Boone will assume his new position with DDESS on Feb. 15, 2013. He comes to DDESS/DoDDS-Cuba from the Rappahannock County Public Schools, in Washington, Va., where he has served as Division Superintendent of a Pre-K through 12 school division since June 2010. Prior to being selected for that position, he served two years as the Division Superintendent in Appomattox County, Va. He began his education career in 1997 as a middle school teacher in Hampton, Va., and has previously served as an assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent of instruction.

"Dr. Boone brings a wealth of educational experience as a superintendent, principal and teacher," said Dr. Middlemiss. "His expertise in teaching and learning, staff development and goal and vision setting will benefit students and their families aboard Camp Lejeune. I am confident that Dr. Boone's experience as a retired military service member will be an additional asset in serving students, parents and the Lejeune community."

A native of North Carolina, Dr. Boone earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Saint Leo University, Saint Leo, Fla. In 1997, he earned his Master's Degree in Teaching and Curriculum from Harvard University, Boston, Mass. He earned a second Master's Degree from George Washington University, Washington, D.C., in School Administration and Supervision. In 2003, he earned his Doctorate in Education Administration and Policy Studies from George Washington University.

Dr. Boone, a U.S. Air Force veteran, served during the Vietnam Era and also served in support of Operation Desert Storm. He retired as a Senior Noncommissioned Officer (E-7) after 22 years of active duty service. He has one daughter, Taryn Boone, who resides in Hampton, Va.

"I am extremely excited to be afforded the opportunity to live and work within the environs of the wonderfully diverse military community again. Being able to passionately serve the children of Camp Lejeune and perform community service within my extended military family is an honor and a privilege for me," Dr. Boone said.
