Recent Grant Releases

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the State of Alabama $4,049,010 for a major drainage improvement project in the City of Tuscaloosa.

“A strong infrastructure is critical to attracting new businesses and industries,” said Shelby.  “This important grant will allow for necessary improvements to be made that will ensure that Tuscaloosa’s drainage system remains effective and trustworthy.”

The FEMA grant will fund the removal of impediments to stormwater drainage by increasing culverts and replacing drainage structure under road, highway, interstate and rail road crossings as well as stream widening, stream channelization and stream bank stabilization in order to reduce recurrent flooding in the area.
