Operation Tomodachi

Operation Tomodachi ("Friend") -- DOD response to the March 11, 2011 Japanese earthquake, tsunami, and release of radiation from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

DOD is developing a comprehensive Operation Tomodachi radiation exposure registry of the entire DOD-affiliated population of Service members, DOD civilian employees, family members of Service members and DOD employees, and contractors who were on or near the mainland of Japan from March 12 to May 11, 2011.

UN approves radiation advice

The United Nations is to adopt advice on radiation that clarifies what can be said about its health effects on individuals and large populations. A preliminary report has also found no observable health effects from last year's nuclear accident in Fukushima.

Registry to Provide Japan Response Radiation Info

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Though no Defense Department personnel or their families were exposed to radiation causing adverse health conditions following the nuclear accident in Japan last year, the department has established a registry to provide information to those who served in the stricken country.
