OLSON STATEMENT ON WHITE HOUSE SUSPENSION OF EPA SMOG RULE

Washington, DC– Rep. Pete Olson (R-Sugar Land) issued the following statement in response to the White House announcement that they will withdraw for the time being a proposed overhaul and increase of ozone regulations:

"Today's announcement is an admission by President Obama that his EPA’s regulations are crushing our economy, keeping employers from hiring and driving up costs for all Americans. But this is just one small step.  President Obama should further suspend the EPA boiler MACT, Cross State Air Pollution, and greenhouse gas rules.  They are all overreaches that provide little health benefit but will have a huge negative impact on our economy.

"Republicans have said all along that the new, burdensome regulatory maze is hindering economic growth. President Obama never should have proposed these rules in the first place.  It’s obvious that the White House is now worried about the politics of their job-killing agenda.  If the President thinks the ozone rules are bad, then he should back off the other unnecessary regulations he has proposed.  We need to get the government out of the way and get America back to work."
