Iowa Ready-Mix Construction Company Pleads Guilty to Violating the Sherman Antitrust Act

Summary

On May 20, 2011, GCC Alliance Concrete, Incorporated (GCC), pled guilty in U.S. District Court, Sioux Falls, Iowa, to Sherman Antitrust Act charges for their role in a scheme to manipulate the ready-mix concrete market. 

GCC admitted that as early as January 2008 and continuing through August 2009, Steven Vanderbrake, sales manager, conspired with others to fix ready-mix concrete prices and/or submit non-competitive and rigged bids for ready-mix sold in Iowa.  Vanderbrake has pled guilty and was sentenced for his role in the antitrust conspiracy.  During the period of the conspiracy, GCC had ready-mix sales that exceeded $2 million. 

This investigation was conducted jointly with the FBI, the U.S. Attorney's Office-Antitrust Division, and the U.S. Department of Justice-Antitrust Division.
