Haile Gold Mine

The Charleston District initiated an Environmental Impact Statement for the Haile Gold Mine.  The project proposed by Haile is to reactivate the existing Haile Gold Mine near Kershaw, SC for the development of gold resources, to expand the area for open pit mining, and to construct associated facilities.

Lee Nuclear Station

Duke Energy has applied for a permit to impact wetlands and waters of the United States as part of the construction of the proposed William States Lee III Nuclear Station near Gaffney, in Cherokee County.  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is serving as a cooperating agency with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) in the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed project.  For more information please see the Public Notice issued by the Corps of Engineers and the Permit Drawings.  Also visit the USNRC website for a description of the overall project and EIS schedule.

I-73 Project

                

South Carolina Department of Transporation proposed a project for a national highway corridor that would provide a link from Michigan to South Carolina. The South Carolina section will consist of a 75.3 mile long, four-lane interstate. Since the I-73 Project would require the placing of fill material into waters of the United States, a permit is required prior to construction of the project. South Island Dredging Association

The South Island Dredging Association, in Hilton Head Island, SC, has applied for a dredging permit to dredge approximately 300,000 cubic yards of sediment from existing marina basins and access channels associated with Harbour Town Marina, Baynard Cove Creek and a community dock within the creek, Braddock Creek and Gull Point Marina, South Beach Marina, and Port Villas.  The dredged material is proposed to be pumped via pipeline to a discharge point in Calibogue Sound.  A federal permit is required for this activity.
