Project Objectives:

Description:

USAID supports the Government of Ethiopia in procuring contraceptive commodities, which has greatly increased the contraceptive prevalence rate reported in the last decade. The Government of Ethiopia developed a new initiative promoting long-acting and permanent methods, including the introduction of Implanon insertion at the community level and strengthening of IUCD insertion and removal services. USAID emphasizes purchasing and distributing contraceptives with adequate lead-times to maintain an adequate supply. Additionally, USAID advocates for the Government of Ethiopia to increase its budget for contraceptives in order to meet increased demands for and use of family planning services.

Expected Results:

  • Order, receive and distribute contraceptives to the public sector
  • Monitor sites to ensure that facilities comply with USAID population regulations
  • Contraceptives commodities procured and distributed in timely manner, reducing stock out
