Lost/Stolen Passport
 

What to do:

  • Please notify the nearest N.Z. Police station of the loss/theft.

  • Inform the U.S. Consulate of the loss/theft by telephone at: +64 9 303 2724 ext. 2800.  Leave a message on our voice mail if necessary. 

If you decide not to apply for a new passport immediately, you may report your lost or stolen passport by completing Form DS-64 (details about forms here) and mailing it to: U.S. Consulate, American Citizens Services, Level 3 Citigroup Center, 23 Customs Street East, AUCKLAND

To obtain a new passport, you must apply in person to the Auckland Consulate at Level 3, Citigroup Center, 23 Customs Street East, Auckland (cnr. Commerce St).  Consulate location map. Note: An appointment is needed for this service.

You will need to:

  1. Complete "Application for Passport", Form-11. Please note that some of the instructions apply only to U.S. citizens residing in the U.S.
  2. Present Proof of U.S. Citizenship
  3. Present Proof of Identity
  4. Provide one Passport Photo (the photo must be 2" x 2" in size, clear and on a white, or off-white background).
  5. Pay the Applicable Fee
  6. Provide a Social Security Number
  7. Complete a DS-64: Statement Regarding Lost Or Stolen Passport
  8. Present a New Zealand Police Report regarding the passport loss.
  9. Provide a courier envelope for your passport to be mailed to you.
  10. Make an appointment.

Applying for a U.S. Passport from Outside the United States

Office Hours

  • Please be advised of the Counter Hours for the U.S. Consulate General in Auckland. The office is closed to the public on the last Wednesday of every month.

    • Passport Services for American Citizens
      All ACS Services by appointment (with the exception of emergency services). 1:00pm - 3:00pm Monday to Friday, except the last Wednesday of each month, and U.S. and N.Z. public holidays.
    • Emergency Services for American Citizens
      8:00am- 11:45am and 1:00pm- 3:45pm Monday to Friday, except the last Wednesday of each month, and U.S. and N.Z. public holidays. For emergencies outside of these hours please phone either: +[64] (9) 303 2724 ext. 2900; or +[64] (4) 462 6000.
