Guthrie supports $6 billion in spending cuts

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement Tuesday, March 15, 2011, after voting yes on H.J.Res. 48, the short-term Continuing Resolution, funding the government until April 8, 2011:

“The new Majority in the House has stepped forward and shown we are committed to shrinking our deficits and reigning in federal spending.

“Passing this short-term CR avoids a government shut-down and cuts another $6 billion in federal spending.

“These two short-term CRs represent the largest reduction in discretionary spending in history, cutting a total of $10 billion.  This is yet another important step in the process toward getting our fiscal house in order.

“It is my hope that this is the last short-term extension and that the Majority in the Senate and the White House are serious about using this time to come up with a long-term spending plan that will fund the government through the rest of the fiscal year.”
