On April 17, TRC International Ltd. (TRC), headquartered in Brentwood, TN, agreed to pay $250,000 to settle claims in Tennessee State Court, that it had over-billed the state of Tennessee for labor under a $4 million contract for highway signs inspection and maintenance in the Memphis, TN area. The Federal-aid contract ran from 1999 to 2004, and an audit conducted in October 2004 by the TN State Comptroller's office reported over-billing by the firm. This investigation was conducted jointly with the TN Attorney General's Office, the FBI, and the TN Bureau of Investigations and found that TRC submitted false claims in excess of $75,000. TRC has been referred to FHWA for debarment consideration.
