Moving Company Employee Convicted In Household Goods Case Involving $1.3 Million Loss

Summary

Following a two-week trial, Moran Shepkaru, a salesperson for AAA Van Lines, North Miami, FL, was found guilty in U.S. District Court in Miami of conspiracy for her role in defrauding household goods moving customers. Shepkaru was indicted in February 2003 in connection with a scheme to extort large sums of money from the company’s customers by holding their possessions hostage. She is one of 18 persons charged in the case, which involves over 970 customers whose personal monetary losses exceed $1.3 million. Shepkaru’s sentencing is scheduled for January 5, 2005. This undercover investigation was conducted jointly with the FBI, with assistance from FMCSA.
