Mechanic Pleads Guilty to Lying About Aircraft Inspection

Summary

Melvin Kernick of Oakland, CA pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Oakland to charges of falsely certifying that maintenance he had done on a private plane had been reviewed by a certified inspector. An investigation found that Kernick had performed work on a privately owned AeroCommander aircraft at an airport in Danbury, CT and signed the name of an FAA-certified inspector in the plane's logbooks.
