Secretary Napolitano Visits the Transportation Security Operations Center

As part of her CBS Evening News interview with Katie Couric discussing Osama bin Laden retaliation threats, Secretary Napolitano visited the Transportation Security Operations Center (TSOC) also known as the Freedom Center.

The Freedom Center can be seen in the interview, and I’m guessing some of you might want to know a little more about it. I know it piques my interest when I see an operations center full of computers and giant displays. It makes me want to push buttons and stuff. Anyway,  it’s our main information center, where analysts monitor the entire transportation network and connect TSA with the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Aviation Administration, FBI, and other law enforcement and security agencies. When an incident happens such as a plane being diverted, a bomb threat, airspace violation, etc, the TSOC is fully involved in these types of scenarios. You can read more about the TSOC here.

You might wonder what that is in the photo that secretary Napolitano is being shown in the photo. It’s a memorial composed of a World Trade Center girder, Pentagon stone, and  a fragment from the wreckage of Flight 93. It serves as a reminder of why we do what we do and what we’re trying to prevent and all TSOC employees pass by it every day when they arrive at their jobs.

The "Freedom Center." Because nothing says "freedom" like unrelenting government surveillance and highly intrusive, warrantless searches.

It's always good to see what our tax dollars pay for...

Obviously Ms. Napolitano does not spend time focusing on improving security checkpoint processes for law-abiding taxpaying American business travelers. I suggest that Ms. Napolitano spend a few hours with the taxpayers that fund her salary, and yours.

So TSA HQ is called Freedom center? Wow, you can't buy irony that good.

Did she get groped, I mean patted down, before being allowed to enter or was she just allowed in under the presumption that she didn't have any hidden weapons or explosives.

You guys actually call it the "Freedom Center", huh? It's Orwellian enough on its own, but why not just dispense with the charade and call it the Ministry of Peace? Maybe you can shorten it to MiniPax.

I love that you call it The Freedom Center. And by "love", I mean "hate".

The irony is incredible.

The way to fight terrorism is to preserve civil liberties and freedom - not relentlessly erode them. It is possible to have good security ( it will never be perfect ) without sacrificing the democratic way of life that took centuries to fully evolve. If terrorists force people to live in fear then they have already won without killing anybody. The way to beat terrorism is to show terrorists that we are not affraid, and that we will never change our way of life or get rid of our cherished values of freedom and liberty. The TSA will never understand this and that is why it will never be successful.

I hope that every single person working there has to go through a PORNO-scope and get their genitals groped each and every time that they walk through the door.

Or is that kind of "Freedom" just for the rest of us?

Morale must be bad at the "Freedom Center" if Big Sis needs to pay you a visit. :-)

This is nothing more than a Friday puppy post and a diversion from the increasing bad PR TSA is getting.

Screen shot taken.

Curious how the staff at the "TSA Freedom Center" reacted to the detection of explosives in a juice box and jar of baby food with DFW TSA employees just tossing those explosives in common trash at the checkpoint.

This is much more along the lines of blog entries I want to see from the TSA. Now perhaps you can whip up something that is about real concerns of travelers.

I, for one, would like to hear about the official methods for clearing medical/necessary liquids such as breastmilk, baby food, liquid medications, etc.

"Freedom Center." Really. How 1984.

Coming from an agency that consistently tramples the freedoms of the people. War is Peace. Ignorance is Strength. Freedom is slavery.

And terror is security.

Which desk is responsible for covering up reports of TSO misconduct?

We still haven't heard from you about the pedo TSO that was caught several weeks ago.

There have not and never will be a published official guideline that the TSA agents are "required" to use, and the traveling public can know about.

These and all guidelines are for security personnel only and are subject to change at will. In other words whatever they say or decide it should be at any given time, and you must shut up and take it or this statement will follow: "DO YOU WANT TO FLY TODAY".

Good luck getting a response.

Look closely at the photo. This is what you see (and what your tax money is paying for).

- About 30 computer stations AND laptops.
- Projectors and several monitors.
- Some guy with pizza.
- People standing around doing nothing.
- People sitting around doing nothing.
- Nobody doing work.

This Operations Center is an absolute joke!

Also seen -

- guy in army camo
-- why is he in a battle uniform? Is he fighting someone in the "freedom center"?
-- and he looks like he needs to PT a little more.

- too many security violations to count. look at the phones that are too close to computers processing classified information.

Ill just tell the government like this.
A lot of people are unhappy with the way things are being done, so why worry about it.
Let the people defend themselves.
Most of us are able bodied Americans that can take care of themselves if they really want to, so let them.
It all comes down to this.
If your on a plane and your not willing to stand up and fight to the death to defend your own during an attempted hijacking , you will die.Do not be afraid.Stand up and fight for yourselves , and we wont have to waste tax payers dollars on nonsense. Its that simple.

hear, hear! LOL really! just get rid of everything, simple as that, lol. you all realize that you all had a hand in this right? you voted for all of the people in office now and this is what they have decided to do. you elected them so this is what your chosen leaders have done. you all have a role in this, you have allowed this to happen, if you dont like then stop it the way the the system allows, vote for someone else. then see what happens, im sure that who you are voting for is fair and just and will do whatever you want. decades of political corruption has led to this and now you have to live with it.

Oh, I didn't read the article, didn't want to waste my time on more disinfo. Sorry you wasted your time writing it..

Wow. Freedom Center? Night is day and the sun is the moon. There is absolutely nothing about what you do that is good for freedom. What's sickening is you don't even realize the irony of your name for it...

Did she get a full pat-down when she attempted to visit the building?

FREEDOM CENTRE? How wonderfully ironic. America hasn't known freedom since 2001. Throttled by its' own hand.

Security?

Simple, go back to personal responsibility...

Let all permitted concealed carry holders take their firearms on board. Ensure visible checking at the boarding desk ("Is that loaded? Yes! Good, you're free to board.")

viola' no more hijackings.

It is the only way!

"The Freedom Center"? Seriously? Way to go with the most ironic name for an operations center ever. Could you be more stupidly cheesy?

Do you people ever read these comments? Do you know how much you are despised and ridiculed? Or is this just an effort to appease the "nuts" of American society by giving us a forum to rant, believing that we're going to be heard while simultaneously being completely ignored.
