Firewood Permit

Limited permits are available when firewood is in supply. They are issued on a first come, first served basis at the Chena Project Office. A maximum of 25 cutters each day are permitted due to safety concerns. Persons who have fulfilled a permit in 2012 may not be eligible for this cutting period dependent on availability.

  • Information Required: Permittee will provide the Corps of Engineers the following information: name, mailing address, physical address, cutting date, contact phone number and vehicle plate number. 
  • Where to pick up permits: Permittee will come to the Chena Project Office, 3800 Laurance Road, to sign and pick up their permit before cutting any firewood. Follow signs along Laurance Road. No permits will be given out after 4 p.m.
  • Firewood cutting hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily during the cutting period. 
  • Permit Cost: Free
  • Limit: One permit per person with a limit of one permit per household will be issued for this cutting period. Proxy cutting may be approved on a case by case basis by the project manager.
  • Load Size: Each firewood permit entitles the permitee to one standard 8 foot long pickup load or equivalent. Wood will be mounded no higher than the top of the cab. No exceptions are allowed.
