Federal Clearance

To obtain Federal clearance, you must contact the FBI.

To obtain FBI clearance, log onto the FBI website, http://www.fbi.gov/   then choose the link to “Request an FBI Identification Record” - http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks.  From here you can find information on the procedure, fee and any other pertinent information. You can also download the required fingerprint card, FD-258 Fingerprint Card.

U.S. Embassies cannot provide criminal background checks since we are not a law enforcement agency and do not have access to law enforcement information. Additionally, we do not take fingerprints, since this is a law enforcement activity.  However, you may be fingerprinted at a local police station.
