Meeting Format: Video Assisted Meeting FAQs

Q: What does the acronym VAM stand for?
A: VAM stands for Video Assisted Meeting.

Q: What is Adobe Connect, and what is the difference between Breeze and VAM?
A: Adobe Connect is the application/service we use for the online discussion. VAM is the system we are developing for SRA to conduct review meetings. You will log into the Adobe Connect service for the meeting.

Q: If I have problems or question with Adobe Connect or VAM who do I contact?
A: Any problems or question should be sent to CSRVED@csr.nih.gov.

Q: Is there a place I can access the Adobe Connect application on my own?
A: We have created a room for SRO’s to work with the Adobe Connect application, follow this link and log in with your Adobe Connect account if you have one, or as a guest.

Q: What hardware and software do I need to have a successful Video Enhanced Discussion?
A: You need a computer (PC or Mac) a web browser (IE or Firefox), a web camera (Logitech QuickCam® Pro 5000 for PC and Apple iSight for Mac).

Q: When do I have to log into the meeting?
A: At least 30 minutes before the meeting.

Q: Why does my camera keep shutting down?
A: There may be network lag, so VAM support technicians will disable your camera if you are not a reviewer of the grant currently being discussion. If you have something to add you can turn on your camera and then speak, but you may not be allowed to have your camera active throughout the entire review.

Q: I am on travel, and will not be available for the mock session, or testing before, what should I do?
A: In this case, please contact VAM support at CSRVED@csr.nih.gov, and they will setup a test for you the best they can. Also in this case, if you have any support staff, they can participate in testing the system.

Q: I don’t have my Adobe Connect login, what should I do?
A: Contact CSRVED@csr.nih.gov as soon as possible

Q: My work place does not allow me to have a webcam of any kind, can I still participate in VAM?
A: Yes, as long as you can log into the meeting room, you can participate. Only constraint will be that no one will be able to view you, but you will hear all audio, and be able to view the chat board and PowerPoint slides.

Q: My workplace has a strong firewall, will I be able to participate in VAM
A: If your workplace has a strong firewall, we can contact your Information System Security Office and see if we can have you gain access.
