Washington, DC - The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announced the 2012 Employee Viewpoint Survey (EVS) results. This year's survey was the largest administered since the survey was first launched in 2002, reaching more than 687,000 employees. This year's survey was the most inclusive and detailed yet, allowing agencies to more deeply explore and learn from their results.
"These results show that federal employees continue to be as dedicated to their agencies, their mission, and to public service as ever before," said OPM Director John Berry. "Agencies can learn a lot from the greater detail and granularity in this year's report and I know that this survey will be used to identify strengths, address weaknesses, and better serve the American people."
Overall, the 2012 results show that employees remain engaged and committed to their jobs, notwithstanding a very slight decline in morale from the highs of recent years. Nearly all employees responded that their work is important, they are constantly looking for ways to do their job better, and they are willing to put in the extra effort to get the job done. Additionally, eighty percent like the work they do, understand how their work relates to the agency's goals and priorities, and rate the overall quality of the work done by their unit as high. More than two thirds of employees recommend their agency as a good place to work.
Governmentwide, the survey also shows that participation in telework has increased. More employees note that they are telework-eligible, from one out of four in 2011 to one out of three this year.
