The President’s Committee believes that the arts and humanities should be part of the education of every child in America. The power of the arts and humanities to foster creativity in developing minds, to engage and motivate students in school and to prepare all children for productive futures is essential for the future of nation’s cultural and economic life.

National Arts & Humanities Youth Program Awards

Formerly Coming Up Taller, these annual awards focus national attention on outstanding programs across the country that are promote the creativity of America's young people, providing them learning opportunities and the chance to contribute to their communities.. Accompanied by a cash award and a ceremony at the White House with the First Lady, the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards not only reward these projects with recognition but also provide organizational and capacity building support over the course of the year. Turnaround: Arts--Creating Success in Schools

The President’s Committee’s Turnaround Arts initiative, created in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education and the White House Domestic Policy Council, is a public-private partnership designed to help transform some the nation’s lowest performing schools through comprehensive and integrated arts education. Developed from the recommendations in PCAH’s recent report Reinvesting in Arts Education: Winning America’s Future Through Creative Schools, the Committee’s landmark research publication of May 2011, Turnaround Arts will test the hypothesis that high-quality and integrated arts education can be an effective tool to strengthen school reform efforts-boosting academic achievement and increasing student motivation in schools facing some of the toughest educational challenges in the country. National Student Poets Program

Working with the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the President’s Committee established this program as the country’s highest honor for young poets. Each year five outstanding high school poets whose work demonstrates exceptional creativity, dedication to craft and promise will be selected for a year of service as national poetry ambassadors. By their example and achievement these National Student Poets demonstrate that engagement in the arts and humanities can produce an environment of creativity, innovation and academic success for this nation's young people.

Education Partnerships

The PCAH also supports arts education through diverse partnerships and special projects that use the arts and humanities to encourage creativity, instill a love of learning, and nurture critical skills.
