The Volpe Center Green Team, which is comprised of employee volunteers, is helping the Volpe Center become a "greener" organization. Its two core functions are to improve the environmental performance of Volpe Center campus and to educate employees about waste reduction, water conservation, energy efficiency, and procurement methods which reduce risks to human health and the environment. As a result of these efforts, the Volpe Center was named the Go Green Award Winner in the large business category for waste reduction by the City of Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The Volpe Center also received a "Green Binnie" Award at Mass Recycle's 20th Anniversary celebration. The award is given to individuals or organizations in recognition of outstanding achievements in and contributions to recycling and source reduction in Massachusetts.
