USPTO Satellite Offices (In Progress)
Denver
The Denver regional satellite office will located in the Byron Rogers Federal Building in the Denver central business district. The Rogers Building is home to 11 federal agencies in downtown Denver. This location offers convenient access to from downtown and suburban sites. The office with house both examiners and patents judges in a 45,000 square foot space. The building offers a fitness center, health unit and large conference space. A childcare center is across the street.
The Government Services Administration (GSA) is in the process of renovating the historic facility, and anticipates completing the renovation in the summer of 2013. We hope to be ready for occupancy as soon as the early fall of 2013. The renovation project includes complete design and construction for upgrades to the structural elements and all major building systems. The building upgrades should reduce energy use by more than 80 percent over current levels and attain LEED Platinum certification.
This high performance green building project will continue GSA’s legacy of outstanding public architecture by providing a balance between historic significance and current needs and aesthetics. Work on the Byron G. Rogers government complex will result in:
- The implementation of innovations in sustainable building design.
- Creation of superior workplaces for civilian federal employees.
- Provisions for increased security and safety for tenants and visitors.
- Cost effective and reliable construction based on “best value” decisions.
The goal in Denver is to have 100 examiners and 20 administrative patent judges, as well as several support staff, on site by the end of the first year of operation.
Dallas-Fort Worth
The Dallas-Fort Worth regional satellite office will be located in the Terminal Annex Federal Building in Dallas. The Terminal Annex Federal Building is located along the southern edge of Dealey Plaza and is close to public transportation.
The USPTO worked with the GSA to select a location in the Dallas-Fort Worth region that is centrally located, affordable, and well suited to the our needs. It also needed to have a strong economic impact on the region, be the best fit for the community, be the most cost-effective, and provide a great place to work for employees, while helping the USPTO fulfill its core mission. The Terminal Annex Federal Building was not only the most affordable, but met all federal regulations for leasing space, while providing the agency flexibility on a move-in date. The building will be leased at a rate well below market price, and the USPTO will partner with GSA to construct its space in the building as quickly as possible.
The proposed opening for the Dallas office is early 2014. The goal is to have 100 examiners and 20 administrative patent judges, as well as several support staff, on site in Dallas by the end of the first year of operation.
Silicon Valley
A location within Silicon Valley has not yet been selected, but in compliance with Executive Order 12072, the area under consideration includes portions of San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale and Mountain View. Office Director Michelle Lee is already working as our liaison with West Coast innovators, utilizing her vast experience advising highly innovative companies on legal, technological, and business issues to help ensure the success of this new office. Proposed opening is mid-year 2014.
