Contracting for Managed
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services:
A Guide for Public Purchasers

Selected Bibliography
November 1997

A Technical Assistance Publication (TAP) is being developed for CSAT/SAMHSA that will present information valuable to all those who are involved in developing requests for proposals (RFPs) and contracts with managed care organizations (MCOs) for mental health and substance abuse (MH/SA) treatment. The primary focus of this document will be to provide a hands-on and pragmatic guide for conceptualizing, developing, and monitoring contracts for publicly funded managed MH/SA services.

The following selected bibliography serves as a resource for those interested in becoming more knowledgeable about developing RFPs and contracts for mental health and substance abuse services in the managed care arena.
