Division of Pharmacologic Therapies

CSAT'S Division Pharmacologic Therapies (DPT) is responsible for educating the treatment community and consumers about the use of medications such as methadone and buprenorphine for opioid addiction and other medication assisted treatments for substance abuse and addiction.

DPT, in conjunction with other CSAT offices and divisions, is conducting a national study of the effect of accreditation on opioid addiction treatment programs (OTPs). Through DPT, CSAT works with staff of other Federal agencies, including the Food & Drug Administration, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, to coordinate policy on opioid treatment.
