OLSON VISITS FORT BEND AUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL NAVY JROTC

SUGAR LAND, TX – Rep. Pete Olson (R-Sugar Land) recently visited the Fort Bend Austin High School Navy JROTC to speak with cadets about their future goals and aspirations as well as his Navy career and experience in public service. Olson congratulated senior cadets on receiving prestigious scholarships and recognized senior cadet Shawn Cleary, who received a Naval Academy appointment. He commended the cadets on their involvement in such a respected school program that teaches service and leadership. The cadets demonstrated their abilities by performing both armed and unarmed drills for Olson.

"Programs like the Navy JROTC develop informed and responsible citizens by instilling in cadets the values of citizenship, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment,” Olson said. “The cadets at Fort Bend Austin High School certainly exemplify these attributes. I enjoyed my time in the Navy and feel privileged to have served this great country, but whether these cadets eventually join the military or not, they will learn important skills in this program that will prepare them for college, careers and life.”

The Fort Bend Austin High School Navy JROTC Unit is led by Lieutenant Commander Edwin Sellards.
