What Communication Tools Should FDA Use to Promote Cigarette Health Warnings?
Please share your ideas for creative ways to promote the new cigarette health warnings! You can also vote or comment on ideas you like!
Beginning September 2012, FDA will require larger, more prominent cigarette health warnings on all cigarette packaging and advertisements in the United States. These warnings mark the first change in cigarette warnings in more than 25 years and are a significant advancement in communicating the dangers of smoking. The final cigarette health warnings can be viewed at www.fda.gov/cigarettewarnings.
The Graphic Health Warnings may not be used, reproduced, displayed, modified, or distributed except for purposes of displaying them on cigarette packaging (including cartons) and in cigarette advertising as required by 21 CFR part 1141 or with the express written permission of FDA or as permitted under the Copyright Act. You may write to the FDA at The Center for Tobacco Products, Food and Drug Administration, Office of Health Communication and Education, 9200 Corporate Blvd., Rockville, MD 20850. You may also call 1-877-CTP-1373 or email AskCTP@fda.hhs.gov.

Display a URL (like www.Cigarette.info) rather than (or in addition to) the 1-800-Quit-Now telephone number.
Display a URL (like www.Cigarette.info) rather than (or in addition to) the 1-800-Quit-Now telephone number.
This would engage those seeing the warning and allow them to view additional information & marketing materials.

This same method should be used on alcohol.
This same method should be used on alcohol. Alcohol wipes out entire families who never even drink it. 1 drunk, 1 car, 1 family gone.

Create a website where people could produce their own labels for consideration by the FDA.
A library of pre-approved images could be made available, and then a text editor could allow people to overlay their own slogans on the images. The labels could either be vetted by FDA employees, or the whole process could be opened up so the public could vote for good labels and flag those that were either off topic or inappropriate. As new label designs came out, people would remain attuned to them and the anti-smoking message.

the 'I quit T-shirt'.
Sell these T-shirts and the proceeds can go to the cancer society or some other group that can benefit. I know a lot of proud quiters that would wear one! I would even wear one that says "I know someone who quit!"
