CONR-1AF(AFNORTH) commander

12/17/2010 - TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Season's Greetings and Happy Holidays! The men and women of the Continental U.S. NORAD Region - 1st Air Force (Air Forces Northern) have all worked very hard during 2010 and have represented themselves and this organization extremely well. As we close out the year and prepare for the end-of-year holiday celebrations, I encourage you to take the time to reconnect with family and friends, and ask that you take just an extra moment to be smart, have a plan, and celebrate with sound Wingman principles.

As mentioned by Gen. William M. Fraser III, commander of Air Combat Command in his safety letter to all ACC Airmen, 2010 was ACC's safest year on record for fatal mishaps. However, please be mindful that cumulatively over the years the Air Force has experienced approximately 200 fatalities from Thanksgiving through New Year's time-frame.

I urge each of you to practice and encourage sound risk management in all of your holiday travels and celebrations. Take an extra moment for yourself and those you love this holiday season. Planning is the key to ensuring all of our activities are carried out safely, and will help to ensure the season remains joyful.

I also encourage you during this time of year to keep our fellow Airmen who are far away from their families in your thoughts and prayers as they defend our freedoms from foreign shores.

Thanks for all you do to defend our nation's skies and support civil authorities and our regional partner nations during time of need. I'm proud to be your commander and look forward to another great year!

Lisa and I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season!
