Visa Reissuance Program

Certain applicants may renew an existing visa without having to attend an interview with a U.S. consular officer.  If, when you last applied for a visa, you provided a complete set of your fingerprints and are now applying to renew the same category of visa, you may be eligible for the Visa Reissuance Program.  To qualify, you must plan to be physically present outside of the United States so that you can enter on the new visa. Next, your previous visa must still be valid or have expired within the past 12 months. Please go through the Visa Reissuance Program Wizard to see if you are eligible to use the program.

Those qualified for the Visa Reissuance Program may send their application, fee and other supporting documents to us by mail.  Visa processing takes between 5 - 7 workdays once we receive the documents in our office.  Additionally, please add the time it will take to receive and return the passport through the postal system.  Therefore, applicants traveling within two weeks are advised to schedule an appointment for a visa interview as there will be insufficient time in which to process the application through the Visa Reissuance Program.

Please see our How To Apply page for more information about applying by mail.

Please note: Some applicants will need to appear in person for their interviews after the Consular Section has reviewed their applications.
