Lawmakers don't want Obama's raises
As Senate Democrats and House Republicans battled over tax legislation and keeping the U.S. economy from going over a "fiscal cliff" last week, Obama issued an executive order giving lawmakers and senior U.S. officials a small pay raise for 2013 — the last thing many lawmakers wanted when arguing over how to cut federal spending. Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Colo., joined a list of bipartisan sponsors this week on legislation that would block that pay raise for Congress over the next two years.

Lawmakers agree on endangered fish funding
As the House and Senate wrangled over the fiscal cliff, Democrats and Republicans found agreement on the four endangered fish of the Colorado River. The Senate on Monday unanimously approved a measure reauthorizing the recovery program for four species of endangered fish in the Colorado River basin. Once it’s signed by President Barack Obama, the measure will remove a “significant uncertainty” for water users in the basin, said Chris Treese, spokesman for the Colorado River Water Conservation District.
Tipton, Bennet vote no on last-minute fiscal-cliff plan
Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez, voted with Colorado’s three other Republicans to oppose the last-minute budget deal New Year’s night in Congress. Meanwhile, Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet was one of just three Democrats to vote against the deal in the Senate.
