Col Robert Brooks is the commander of the 104th Fighter Wing, Barnes Air National Guard Base, Westfield, Massachusetts. He took command on August 23rd 2008 after serving as the 159th Operations Group Commander, Louisiana Air National Guard, Naval Air Station - Joint Reserve Base.

Col Brooks was born in Birmingham, Alabama in August 1964. He was commissioned in May of 1987 through the ROTC at the University of Southern Mississippi. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. Following graduation, he attended Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance AFB, Oklahoma where he was a Distinguished Graduate, winner of the Flight Commanders Award and Air Training Command Commanders Trophy. In August of 1989 he was assigned to the 58th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Eglin AFB, FL.

In August of 1990 until April of 1991, Col Brooks was deployed with the 58th TFS to Tabuk Air Base, Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Storm. During this time he flew 49 combat missions and accumulated 269 combat hours. In October of 1993, he was reassigned to the 1st Fighter Squadron, Tyndall AFB, FL. While at Tyndall AFB, he was selected to attend the USAF Fighter Weapons School in June of 1995.

Upon graduation from Weapons School in December of 1995, Col Brooks was assigned to the 27th Fighter Squadron, Langley AFB Virginia. He served as Chief of Weapons and Tactics, Flight Commander, and was named 1st Fighter Wing Warrior of the Year, 1996. In December of 1997 Col Brooks was selected to be an Instructor at the USAF Fighter Weapons School.

During his tenure at the Weapons School, Col Brooks served in several positions culminating in Director of Operations. In November of 2001, Col Brooks joined the Louisiana Air National Guard as a member of the 122nd Fighter Squadron. During his tour he has served as Chief of Advanced Programs, Operations Officer, Fighter Squadron Commander, Operations Group Commander and Deputy Commander for Joint Task Force Pelican.

Col Brooks is a Command Pilot with over 3500 hours in the F-15, of which 508 are combat hours.

Col Brooks is married and lives in Longmeadow with his wife and three children; two boys and a girl.
