How GLOBE Works For You

GLOBE works by helping you do science and learn about the world around you. GLOBE makes you part of a worldwide community of students, teachers, and scientists working to understand the Earth System. GLOBE provides a framework to enable you, your teachers and others like you to make a contribution to a better world.

GLOBE gives you protocols – step-by-step instructions on how to take measurements so that they are good enough to use in research. Some measurements only require you to observe the environment yourself, using a common set of instructions so that your observations can be compared with those taken by others. Many measurements need instruments – measurement tools. GLOBE gives you instrument specifications – requirements to ensure the instruments are good enough to produce reliable data.

GLOBE gives you this web site to use to report and store your data. This site also provides a way for you to see your data and data from GLOBE students all over the world. You can see these data on maps, on graphs, and in tables. These visualization tools help you become familiar with the data – to make comparisons and see patterns.

This web site lets you communicate with the GLOBE community of students, teachers, and professional scientists.  You can coordinate your efforts, join specific measurement campaigns, ask and answer questions about science, the environment, and GLOBE. This is a site where you can show your work and share your research results.

GLOBE also helps prepare your teacher to guide you and support you in doing science. GLOBE teachers are trained in doing the measurements and using this web site. The teachers then use GLOBE to help you learn.
