    Emergency communications

"Get to Know Us Before You Need Us"
Red Cross assists the Armed Forces with emergency verification and delivery of emergency messages. Emergency messages relay objective & verified information regarding an emergency or potential emergency but do not take the place of routine communication among family members. Emergency messages should always be urgent and time-sensitive. Emergency messages can be started by anyone but must be for an authorized recipient and must be about an immediate family member. No matter the situation, the quickest and most efficient way to send an emergency message is to ensure all family members know the following:

    • Their local Red Cross phone number
    • Your full name
    • Rank
    • Unit and unit address
    • Service branch
    • Social Security Number

What the Red Cross needs to know in order to send an emergency message:

    • Full name of person who is sending the message
    • Their relationship to the service member
    • Their contact numbers
    • Full name of the sick or injured person, etc.
    • Date of birth of the sick or injured person, etc.
    • Their relationship to the service member
    • Attending physician's name and phone number
    • Hospital address and phone number
    • Local point of contact's name and phone numbers
