48TH MISSION SUPPORT GROUP

The 48th MSG executes expeditionary and in-garrison personnel, logistics, communications, contracting, engineering and services support for U.S. Air Forces in Europe's only lead Air Expeditionary wing. It also provides force protection for infrastructure, facilities, and personnel at home and deployed locations and enhances the quality of life and quality of service for our military, civilian and dependent personnel assigned to RAF Lakenheath and surrounding community.

As the heart and soul of the Liberty Wing, the 48th MSG is made up of the following squadrons.

Civil Engineers

A squadron supporting USAFE's only lead AEF wing at two main installations. Provides maintenance/repair, construction, fire protection, environmental protection, disaster preparedness, explosive ordnance disposal, and housing for our squadrons and tenants, 705 facilities, our housing units, a regional hospital, AAFES, Commissary and our DoD Dependent Schools valued.

Force Support 

This squadron supports 4 groups, 21 squadrons, 14 tenant units and family members totaling 15,000 personnel. Provides world-class manpower and personnel, force development, airman and family services, sustainment and community services support for RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell. Manages the UK's only Airman Leadership School for 2 wings, a SOG and 5 GSUs. Programs include education services, family support, food service, lodging, child development, laundry, mortuary affairs, honor guard, library, fitness, sports and recreation.

Security Forces 

Protects and defends USAFE's largest, and only lead AEF wing in-garrison and at deployed locations. Provides force protection for our military, civilian, and family members. Coordinates law enforcement operations with host nation police agencies. Executes demanding expeditionary and home station missions, supporting operations within any AOR.

Communications 

Provides the 48 FW command, control, communications, computer, and information (C4I) systems support both in garrison and while deployed. Maintains air traffic control, meteorological, navigation, telephone, computer, information management, force protection and personal communications systems. Operates the network control center, multimedia center, and post office. Plans, procures and implements C4I projects.

Services 

Develops and provides programs which support 48th Fighter Wing readiness and enhance unit morale, esprit de corps, and quality of life. Programs include food service, lodging, child development, laundry, mortuary affairs, honor guard, library, fitness, sports and recreation. Acts as focal point between base agencies, Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), and the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA).

Contracting 

Procures services and equipment worth over $120M annually for DoD activities in the United Kingdom, Norway and Iceland to include 3rd Air Force, 48th Fighter Wing, 100th Air Refueling Wing, 352d Special Operations Group and 11 geographically separated locations. Directly supports over 22,000 personnel. Deploys personnel to combat and humanitarian operations and exercises in Africa, Europe and SW Asia.

Logistics Readiness 

Provides materiel management, distribution, and contingency operations supporting 48 FW, USAFE, USEUCOM, and NATO commitments. Manages and operates a large fleet of vehicles , receives, stores, inspects and delivers supplies; annually issues gallons of petroleum via R-11 refuelers; directs wing's deployment and plans program.
