The KZ-INFaNT project focuses on the aspect of maternal and child health concerning improved nutrition and feeding for infants and young children.  The project will help ensure that improved baby-house menu, recently approved by the Ministry of Health, is effectively implemented in the country’s twenty five baby houses, including best practices in child feeding.

The goal of the project is to improve nutrition and feeding for institutionalized children under four years of age in Kazakhstan.

Project objectives: 1) to help ensure the smooth introduction of a more nutritious menu; and

2) enable baby house health workers to improve feeding practices.

The project objectives are building on Kazakhstan orphan nutrition study which assessed the nutritional and developmental status of children living in baby houses. Findings indicate a serious deficit in nutrition.  The Ministry of Health has approved more nutritious menu based on the study findings. The introduction of a nutritionally improved menu for baby houses represents an achievement in introducing evidence-based public-health reform.
