Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving 2016 folks!!! The best way to survive your Thanksgiving drive: Buckle Up. Every Trip. Every Time. Wear Your Seat Belt!

And did you know...The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that seat belts saved the lives of nearly 13,000 drivers and passengers ages 5 and older in 2014? If everyone had worn their seat belts on every trip that year, an additional 3,000 could've been saved.

Please visit www.trafficsafetymarketing.gov to check out safe driving tips to get you ready for your long drive this Thanksgiving weekend!

With a the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday weekend ahead of us, CMC(SD) encourages Marines and their loved ones to enjoy the time off safely. Whether traveling, working around the house, or spending time with family, please remain aware and smart in everything that you do!

According to the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety, an average of approximately 118 individuals are killed in motor vehicle accidents on New Years Day each year, largely due to drunk driving. Despite the turn of the year being behind us, Marines are encouraged to avoid driving after consuming alcohol. The numbers speak for themselves -- driving impaired is likely to result in serious injury or death. Be safe and be smart.

Happy New Year to our Marines, veterans, USMC families, and our civilian workforce! Thank you for all you did in 2015. Be safe as we ring in 2016, and let's toast to a healthy, happy, and productive New Year!

As your Thanksgiving road trips draw closer, CMC(SD) urges Marines and their families to utilize the three P's of safe, successful travel:

PREPARE for the trip. Know your routes and plan accordingly.
PROTECT yourself and your loved ones. Wear seatbelts, have your vehicle properly maintained, and drive in a safe fashion.
PREVENT accidents and crashes. Practice safe driving by remaining alert, using your turn signals, and being aware of other drivers.
