Peter Kovar, Assistant Secretary Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations Peter Kovar, Assistant Secretary Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations

Peter A. Kovar was sworn in as HUD's Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations (CIR) on May 5, 2009, after being unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. As a key member of HUD's senior leadership, Kovar serves as the Secretary's chief liaison to members of Congress, State and local leaders, as well as dozens of public interest groups.

With 26 years of experience on Capitol Hill, Kovar brings a wealth of legislative knowledge to HUD. He served as chief of staff for Congressman Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. During his tenure on Capitol Hill, Kovar worked on virtually every legislative issue including immigration policy, Medicare reform, environmental protection, government ethics, and economic development. For the past six years, he also played a key role in coordinating the interaction between Representative Frank's Congressional office and the work of the House Financial Services Committee, which has jurisdiction over federal housing policy.

Peter also brings his devotion to community involvement to his own neighborhood where he has been active in a number of youth and adult sports programs as well as community public safety initiatives.
