Statement by U.S. Ambassador Karl W. Eikenberry on the Attack in Kandahar

On behalf of the people of the United States I strongly condemn the vicious attack on police headquarters that occurred today in Kandahar City. At least 15 innocent Afghans were killed and 24 injured, including children and brave security forces who responded. This inhumane act by the Taliban demonstrates the brutality of terrorism and their complete disregard for human life. I also commend the heroic actions of the NDS and police personnel who risked their lives to protect the people of Kandahar.

Our thoughts and condolences are with those affected by this act of terror. The United States remains firmly committed to working in partnership with the Afghan Government and people, as well as our international partners, to deliver security and a better future for Afghanistan.
