U.S. Embassy Statement on Attack in Takhar

The United States joins the President of Afghanistan in condemning yesterday’s suicide attack on the provincial leadership in Takhar and Afghan and coalition forces. The attack killed General Mohammad Daud Daud, who was in the forefront of his country’s efforts to defeat the insurgents and bring peace and stability to Afghanistan, as well as the Takhar Provincial Chief of Police Shah Noori. Takhar Governor Abduljabar Taqwa was wounded in this attack and several other Afghan officials and coalition members were killed or wounded.

We extend our sincerest condolences to the families of the victims of this terrorist violence. The United States remains determined to work with its Afghan and international partners to further the cause of peace and security to which General Daud and Chief of Police Noori were committed.
