Transition Begins at the Afghan Government Media Information Center

As we stated earlier, the U.S. Embassy is working to transition the Afghan Government Media Information Center to a fully Afghan-supported institution. We will continue to interact with the GMIC to ensure that U.S. support and resources are used efficiently and effectively. A responsible transition requires a steady partnership with GMIC and these advisors will continue to provide a presence while not an integral part of the organization's daily management. While we continue to review and reassess our relationship with the GMIC, we note that the Embassy did not, and has not, cut funding to GMIC at this time.

We continue fully to support a free and open media in Afghanistan.
