MIssion: The Atlanta VA Regional Office is responsible for delivering non-medical VA benefits and services to Georgia Veterans and their dependent family members. This is accomplished through the administration of comprehensive and diverse benefit programs established by Congress. Our goal is to deliver these benefits and services in a timely, accurate, and compassionate manner. The Atlanta Regional Office (RO) is located at 1700 Clairmont Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033. The Office is comprised of the Veterans Service Center, Education, Loan Guaranty, and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment business lines. We are staffed with approximately 775 employees.
Business-Lines: The Veterans Service Center (VSC) delivers non-medical benefits for over 113,000 veterans and/or their dependent family members for compensation, pension, death compensation, or death pension payments that exceed $110,000,000 monthly. The Veterans Service Center provides targeted outreach to Veterans' groups such as: homeless Veterans, returning Veterans, and women Veterans. Staffers are co-located at four military sites: Fort Benning, Fort Gordon, Fort Stewart, and Robins Air Force Base. The Regional Processing Office (RPO) processes educational benefits (i.e. Montgomery GI Bill and Post- 9/11 GI Bill). Our region consists of four southern states (GA, FL, NC, and SC) and the commonwealth of Puerto Rico. As of the end of fiscal year 2011, the RPO workload accounted for 17% of the national workload for education claims. The RPO processed 561,079 education claims and provided training to 109,039 students (72% of students were certified as Post-9/11 GI Bill beneficiaries). The Regional Loan Center (RLC) is the largest in the nation, processing loan originations and property valuations for all VA guaranteed loans for the states of Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. In addition, we administer the Specially Adapted Housing program for eligible veterans within these states. Under the new VALERI System, we assist veterans in foreclosure avoidance throughout the nation. In FY 2011, we assumed responsibility for the eligibility determination for all Veterans throughout the nation planning to use their VA Home Loan Benefit by establishing the Atlanta National Eligibility Center. Since the inception of the VA home loan program in 1944, Atlanta has assisted within our four state jurisdiction more than 1.948 million veterans and their families to obtain mortgages totaling 1,948,290.00 billion dollars.
The Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (VR&E) Division provides a wide range of vocational rehabilitation services for approximately 4,000 veterans and service-members in Georgia. We assist in providing services aimed at employment and independent living goals. We have offices at the Regional Office in Decatur, the Augusta VA Medical Center, Uptown in Augusta, in Columbus, at the Primary Care Clinic in Savannah, and in Tifton. We also have Counselors providing services through our ‘Coming Home to Work’ Program at Fort Benning, Fort Gordon, and Fort Stewart. Details about our program can be obtained at www.vetsuccess.gov.
