Close to the ground, Air Force combat weather technicians assigned to Special Operations Forces are expected to know and keep up-to-date on the entire environment in the isolated locations their unit deploys.

These weather technicians must travel light and be fast on their feet, so they are outfitted with gear unique to their mission.

Their weather tools usually fit in a rucksack and include small inflatable black balloons to calculate wind speeds and handheld digital gear to measure weather conditions in their area.
