CSM William Funcheon was born in Blue Island, Illinois on 11 September 1968. He entered the U.S. Army in August 1986 entering Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and graduated Advanced Individual Training as a Wheeled Vehicle Operator (88M).

CSM Funcheon’s military education includes completing all the Noncommissioned Officer Education System Courses, graduate from the United States Army Sergeant’s Major Academy class 61, First Sergeant Course, The Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, Basic Combatives Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course, Contractor Officers Course, Commanders Safety Course, Movement Control Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Intelligence Analysis Course, Fuels & Energy Management Course, Supervisor Development Course, Manager Development Course. His civilian education includes a Bachelors of Science in Liberal Studies degree from Excelsior College and is currently pursuing a Master Degree in Organization Leadership and Management from Excelsior College.

His awards and decorations include the, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Army Commendation Medal (4th award), Army Achievement Medal (9th award), Army Good Conduct Medal (8th award), National Defense Service Medal (1 Bronze star), Southwest Asia Service Medal (3 Bronze Stars), Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 Bronze Stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (with numeral 5), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Government of Kuwait), Air Assault Badge, and the Drivers Badge. He has earned the Silver German Schutzenschnur Marksmanship Badge. CSM Funcheon is the recipient of both the Ancient & Honorable Order of Saint Christopher Medal for Transporters. He is also a member of the prestigious United States Army Europe Sergeant Morales Club. CSM Funcheon is married to Gwendolyn Funcheon of McCrory, Arkansas. They have one daughter, Kathleen (15).
