Welcome to the NRCC

Established in 1983, the Northeast Regional Climate Center (NRCC) is located in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University. It serves the 12-state region that includes: Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and West Virginia. Major funding is provided through a contract with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The Center's staff works cooperatively with the National Climatic Data Center, the National Weather Service, state climate offices, and other interested scientists in the Northeast to acquire and disseminate accurate, up-to-date climate data and information.

Winter Nears Its End

With only two weeks left in meteorological winter, the season is shaping up to be a warm one across the Northeast. From December 1, 2012 through February 14, 2013 the average temperature at 34 of 35 climate sites ranked in the top 30 warmest. As for snowfall, Feb 1-14, 2013 was one of the top 30 snowiest at 26 sites. That's in large part due to the February 8-9th storm that dropped up to 40" of snow on the Northeast. When examining winter so far, 11 sites report the season to be one of their snowiest while 5 sites report it to be one of their least snowiest.

NRCC supports a three-tiered national climate services support program.
The partners include: National Climatic Data Center, Regional Climate Centers, and State Climate Offices.
