Summary:

The Department of Defense Transition Assistance Program (TAP) provides job assistance and separation counseling services for Soldiers and their Families during the transition away from active service. TAP services are provided on military installations by Transition Assistance Officers. On Army installations TAP services are delivered through Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) centers. TAP initiatives include transition information and counseling for pre-separation, employment assistance, relocation, education and training, health and life insurance, finances, Reserve affiliation, disabled Veterans, and retirement.

Eligibility:

Retired Army Reserve Soldiers and their ID card-carrying Family members are eligible for ACAP Transition Assistance services on a space available basis for life.

Benefit Highlights:

To help smooth the transition from active duty service, Transition Assistance Program services are provided on Army installations by ACAP centers. Staff at ACAP centers offers transition assistance counseling on the following subjects.

  • Pre-Separation Counseling
  • Effects of a Career Change
  • Employment Assistance
  • Relocation Assistance
  • Education and Training
  • Health and Life Insurance
  • Finances
  • Disabled Veterans
  • Certificate of Release or Discharged from Active Duty

The Department of Defense maintains the TurboTap website to assist all service members with transitioning assistance. The website includes downloadable information pamphlets, links to the DD Form 2648, Pre-separation Counseling Checklist, and an application to help prepare for meetings with Transition Counselors.
