Summary:

The DoD Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) program offers military spouses seeking portable careers assistance with 1) Career Exploration, 2) Education and Training, 3) Career Readiness, and 4) Career Connections.  The MyCareer Advancement Account (MyCAA) financial assistance component for eligible spouses of active duty Service members is included in the Education and Training component of SECO. The Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) program which partners with Fortune 500 Plus companies to recruit, hire and retain military spouses is included in the Career Connections component of SECO. All military spouses are encouraged to use the msepjobs.militaryonesource.mil web-site where over 100,000 job opportunities have been posted by MSEP partners.

Eligibility:

All spouses of Army Soldiers are eligible for DoD Spouse Education and Career Opportunities services.

Eligibility for MyCAA financial assistance is restricted to spouses of active duty Soldiers, who are serving on Title 10 orders, and in the pay grades E1-E5, W1-W2, and O1- O2.   

Benefit Highlights:

DoD Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) services are provided at no cost to military spouses via the Military OneSource toll free telephone (1-800342-9647) and on-line at www.militaryonesource.com. Employment readiness services are also provided by installation Family Centers. SECO includes the following services:

  • Career Exploration/Discovery - Assists spouses with career interest, aptitude and skill assessments, portable career field and occupational information, geographical salary and benefit information, flexible work options, and planning for work-life balance.
  • Career Education and Training - Helps spouses find affordable, valued schools and programs of study, consumer awareness decision tools, and sources of financial assistance that lead to degrees, licenses and credentials needed for portable career employment.  This includes assistance with the MyCAA program which offers eligible spouses  up to $4,000 for requirements leading to an Associate's degree, license, or credential in a portable career.  All Spouses are provided information on other sources of financial aid, to include federal, state, and private sources.
  • Career Readiness - Helps spouses with resumes, interview skills, job searches, networking, child care, transportation, etc.
  • Career Connections - Helps spouses connect with job fairs, federal employers (www.usajobs.com), and Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) employers (https://msepjobs.militaryonesource.mil/) who are committed to recruiting, hiring, retaining and promoting military spouses into portable career employment.
