Before joining the McDowell office, Christine Kurth was Republican Staff Director and General Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and joined the Committee in 2005 as Deputy Staff Director. Prior to joining the Commerce Committee, Ms. Kurth served as Deputy General Counsel for the Senate Committee on Appropriations from 2003 to 2005. She has also served as Counsel to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and as Professional Staff Member to the Senate Appropriations Committee. Before her nine years of service on Capitol Hill, Ms. Kurth litigated contempt cases in federal court on behalf of the National Labor Relations Board. She began her legal career as a law clerk to Chief Judge James K. Singleton in the U.S. District Court in Alaska. Ms. Kurth received a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in political science and a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Valparaiso University.

Erin McGrath joined the Commission in March 2000 as an Attorney-Advisor in the Commercial Wireless Division of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau where she specialized in competitive bidding, designated entity, ownership and control issues. Most recently, she served as Assistant Division Chief in the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau’s Mobility Division. During this time, she engaged in numerous rulemaking proceedings, was instrumental in the review of several major wireless and media transactions, such as Cingular-AT&T Wireless and Verizon-ALLTEL, and managed post-auction licensing matters, including the recent 700 MHz and PCS auctions. She also served as the interim Legal Advisor to Commission Meredith A. Baker for wireless, international, and public safety issues. Ms. McGrath received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and her J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.

Brigid N. Calamis | Deputy Chief of Staff

Brigid Calamis joined Commissioner McDowell's office in June 2006. Ms. Calamis is office liaison to Capitol Hill and members of the news media. She is responsible for managing the office as well as coordinating all matters related to the Commissioner's schedule and public appearances. She previously served in the government relations and public affairs departments of the National Association of Broadcasters and CompTel, a trade association representing telecommunications entrepreneurs, and provided public affairs support for technology and communications clients at Dittus Communications. Ms. Calamis holds a Bachelor of the Arts degree from Davidson College

Tasha Y. Kinney | Staff Assistant

Tasha Kinney is the Staff Assistant for Commissioner McDowell. Among her many duties, Ms. Kinney handles meeting requests, invitations and travel arrangements for the office, and greets visitors. Ms. Kinney previously served as Staff Assistant to FCC Commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker. Prior to joining the Commission, she held various positions throughout the federal government at the United States Department of Agriculture, the General Services Administration, NASA, and the Department of Veteran Affairs.
