2/7/2013 – A new report, published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology (vol. 79, issue 4, p. 1342-1352), compares different filtration methods for recovering indicator bacteria, coliphage, and pathogens in lake water samples.  Scientists from the USGS Ohio Water Microbiology Laboratory, the USGS National Wildlife Health Center, and USEPA collaborated on this study.   Donna Francy (dsfrancy@usgs.gov).  


11/23/2012 – A new USGS Open File report presents data on microbial source tracking markers (MST) and E. coli concentrations at three inland recreational lakes in Ohio—Buckeye, Atwood, and Tappan Lakes. Samples were collected in order to begin to understand potential sources of fecal contamination including human, ruminant, dog, and gull. Donna Francy (dsfrancy@usgs.gov) and Erin Stelzer (easterlzer@usgs.gov).


10/11/2012 – Amie Brady and Erin Stelzer will present at the annual Great Lakes Beach Association meeting, Oct 16-18, in Mackinac Island, MI. Amie will talk about predictive modeling in a session on “Great Lakes Restoration Initiative success stories.” Erin will present a poster on “Tools for understanding and predicting harmful algal blooms.”
