We initiated an audit of the Motor Carrier Safety Program to assess FMCSA's progress in implementing recommendations from our April 1999 audit report, executing requirements of the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act of 1999 on new-entrant motor carriers, and issuing rulemakings required by the act. The act requires the Department to periodically report to Congress on the status of completing recommendations from our earlier audit.
