First Phase of DISA Headquarters Construction Complete: Workforce to Begin Relocating to Fort Meade in January

Workforce to Begin Relocating to Fort Meade in January

Fort George G. Meade, Md. — Defense Information Systems Agency Director (DISA), Army Lt. Gen. Carroll Pollett, accepts a ceremonial key to the new DISA facility from the Installation Commander, Army Col. Dan Thomas, on Oct. 14 at the new headquarters command building. Others in attendance included representatives of Hensel Phelps Construction Company, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Meade, and DISA staff.

The key turnover ceremony marks the first phase of DISA's occupation of its new headquarters facility at Fort Meade.  When complete, the facility will provide 1.1 million square feet of administrative, laboratory, conference, training, and warehouse space on a 95 acre site housing DISA headquarters facilities relocating from Northern Virginia.

The first phase of the turnover includes administrative spaces, utilities, and a parking garage.  Turnover of the lab will occur during phase two in November 2010, with completion of construction and final turnover of administrative and common spaces in February 2011.

Outfitting of DISA's new facility — to include security systems, furniture and information technology infrastructure — has already begun and will continue in phases.

The relocation of 4,300 military, civilian and contractor personnel from DISA headquarters and tenant activities will begin in January 2011, and continue to August 2011.  More than 75 percent of the government workforce has indicated they will make the move to Fort Meade, at least initially.  While pleased with the relatively high percentage of employees committed to working in the new headquarters facility, DISA has implemented an aggressive hiring strategy to offset potential workforce losses during and after the relocation.
