MISSION
The Maneuver Center of Excellence provides trained, agile, adaptive and ready Soldiers and Leaders for an Army at war, while developing capabilities for the Maneuver Force and the individual Soldier and providing a world-class quality of life for our Soldiers, Civilians, and Army Families.
PRIORITIES
Fort Benning and the Maneuver Center of Excellence will:
- Develop and implement a maneuver leader training and education strategy to develop agile adaptive leaders, committed to the Army Profession, who possess the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attributes to be successful on complex battlefields.
- Institutionalize lessons and innovate to ensure that our Soldiers and Leaders are grounded in the fundamentals and are prepared to fight, lead, and win across the range of military operations in complex, uncertain, and changing environments.
- Develop capabilities in our combat formations to seize, retain, and exploit the initiative across the range of military operations.
- Review, revise, and apply doctrine to consolidate lessons of recent armed conflict and ensure maneuver leaders and units are prepared to fight and win across the range of military operations.
- Adapt MCoE organization, personnel, and processes, and collaborate with other CoEs, services, and research organizations to improve the combat effectiveness of the Maneuver Force through integrated doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel, and facilities (DOTMLPF).
- Apply best practices and innovate to ensure the health of the force and make Fort Benning the best installation in the world for our Soldiers, Families, and Civilians.
MCoE 2013 Top Ten
- Improve combat effectiveness of brigades through the Squad: Foundation of the Decisive Force (SFDF) initiative, Brigade Combat Team 2020 organization changes, and future capabilities, including SFDF, Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV) and Armored Multipurpose Vehicles (MPV).
- Expand combined arms training across the Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC), Maneuver Captain Career Course (MCCC), and Noncommissioned Officer Education System (NCOES); integrate with other Centers of Excellence (CoEs) to enhance knowledge and ability to fight as a combined arms team.
- Improve reconnaissance and security capability through doctrine revisions, organizational change, training, education, material improvements and personnel policies.
- Refine learning outcomes, improve instructor certification and increase the rigor of courses to accomplish those outcomes.
- Institutionalize and properly fund recent Army Learning Model (ALM) and training innovations such as Adaptability Soldier and Leader Training and Education (ASLTE), Advanced Situational Awareness Training(ASAT) and Comprehensive Soldier and Family Fitness (CSF2) for incorporation into Professional Military Education (PME) at the MCoE.
- Ensure discipline and health of force through the enforcement of standards, sponsorship and welcoming, elimination of sexual harassment and sexual assault, developmental counseling, and improved unit cohesion.
- Implement a maneuver leader self-study program to enable lifelong learning and professional development.
- Accredit PME courses and expand partnerships with institutes of higher learning to achieve learning outcomes and enhance leader development.
- Evolve MCOE organization to improve effectiveness.
- Expand and improve culture, language, and negotiation and mediation training to ensure that leaders are able to understand and operate effectively in complex environments, exert influence, and direct the broad range of activities necessary to shape conditions and consolidate security gains.

Since 1918, Fort Benning has been integral in the training of this Nation’s Warriors. Today, Fort Benning is the Maneuver Center of Excellence, and home of the Armor and Infantry schools and their subordinate brigades. We also are on the cutting edge of Army modernization as we conduct research, development and experimentation to ensure our future Army Maneuver Force is prepared and equipped to fight and win as a combined arms team in a complex operating environment. Through doctrine development, leveraging emerging technology and partnering with industry, the Maneuver Center is an advocate for the Maneuver Force.
It is estimated that more than 120,000 Soldiers, Family members, military retirees, civilians and contractors live, work and use services on Fort Benning daily.
WHO WE TRAIN
All Armor and Infantry Soldiers start their Army journey here. We are responsible for training and leader development of every Infantry and Armor Soldier – from private to colonel. We significantly shape and influence the Army force as every Soldier, noncommissioned officer and officer in the Armor and Infantry branches will receive initial, mid-level and senior-level Army professional development training at Fort Benning.
These Soldiers are trained to be agile, adaptive, confident, instinctive and ready Warriors and leaders. Fort Benning’s average daily student training load is estimated at 12,000 service members. Our highly trained Cadre and instructors teach more than 180 courses. This year, we are resourced to train approximately 96,000 service members.
